GURUGRAM: Haryana may soon have its first science city with every possibility of it being set up in its richest district Gurugram.

The project that has been in the reckoning for a long time will be a joint collaboration between the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and the Haryana government.

The concept of Science city has gained popularity in metropolitan cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Besides Gurugram, another city in contention was Sonepat.

However, at the end, the decision was fixed at the Millennium city.

The Science City is expected to come up in an area of 30 acres.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has chosen five locations and provided the list to the Science and Technology department of the Central Government.

There are plans to have a museum, experiment laboratories, lecture halls and various libraries at the Science City.

“Science plays a major role in the development of society. The Science City that will come up will not only provide a great sight for the tourists but will provide them with a memorable and a learning experience.

"The main focus will be on children so that they use the facilities and become great human beings in the future,” said a senior MCG official.
