Metro commuters to experience driverless ride on Magenta Line

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is all set to ply its driverless' train on the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden. The Magenta line missed its first deadline and is also going to miss its second deadline too (in September), and expected to thrown partially open for public in October in this year.

According to the official at DMRC, “Trail runs on two sections of the corridor of phase-iii, between Kalkaji and Botanical Garden ( 13-km stretch) and Janakpuri west to Terminal 1- IGI Airport Metro station ( 10 km stretch) are in progress. The 3.9 Km elevated section of Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden has almost completed, “The entire stretch has two elevated metro station and the line is expected to be opened between October 2017 to March 2018,” said DMRC official.

Meanwhile, the 34 km stretch Janakpuri west to Kalindi Kunj, which has total 23 stations, “the entire section covers the distance of 34.27 km out of which 10.46 km is elevated and rest 23.8 km is underground, in which 8 stations have been established on elevation and 15 are on the underground tunnel way. The line is planned to be opened in stages between October 2017 to March 2018,” he added.

“By March 2018, DMRC plans to complete the phaseiii expansion of its network with the commissioning of not only the Magenta Line but the Pink Line (Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar) too,” the official source at DMRC said.

DMRC has already carried out the first trial run on the Pink Line between the Shakurpur and Mayapuri Metro stations.
