Haryana govt passes RERA

- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: The Haryana government on late Tuesday night passed the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Act (HRERA) but the home buyers in Gurugram are however not very happy with the act.

HRERA that is diluted form of RERA prevents the builder or developer to be penalised from the public authorities if they are able to acquire part completion or occupation certificate.

Not only hassled by delay in possession but also poor quality of construction adopted by the builders, home buyers in the city have stated the move by the state government is biased towards the builders and developers.

Even though the dislike of the diluted form of RERA was already voiced by thousands of homebuyers two months ago when the draft of HRERA was first brought out, there were no amendments done in the act.

According to government sources more than 2,000 recommendation from the citizens were sought on the improvement in HRERA act.

Mentioning of the bill passed by the state cabinet, a senior government official said, “HRERA not only caters to the needs of the buyers but also of the builders. There is a competent authority that will be responsible for providing the completion certificate. All the builders cannot be painted in the same brush as tainted after all they have put in huge money for their project and it is in their interest to finish their project soon.”

“We had seen the writings on the wall earlier when the government first brought out the HRERA draft in public domain therefore it has not come as a shock. You can understand that how strong the builder lobby is in Gurugram which has resulted in the state government over ruling the centre,” said Dhruv Bansal of Gurugram Citizens Council.

On various occasions , there have been protests by the homebuyers in the city for delay in possession as well as shoddy constructions. NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday visited a four-yearold girl at Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, who was raped brutally by a 30-year-old school van driver, who used to pick up and drop up the minor girl to and from school. Shockingly, her rapist was not only married but also had daughters

The minor girl, who is stated to be in critical condition, belongs to a financially weak family living in Baba Haridas Nagar. Outraged at the incident, Maliwal highlighted how lack of action by authorities made not only women but even infants and minor vulnerable to sexual crimes.

She reiterated her demand for setting a high-level committee that includes the Union Home Minister, Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister, Police Commissioner and the DCW chief to devise measures towards security of women and minors in Delhi.
