Ex Gurugram journalist shot dead in broad day light

GURUGRAM: A former journalist, who was working with a local news channel, was brutally murdered in broad day light in the busy roads of Gurugram late Friday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Surender Singh Rana, 33, succumbed to his injuries after five gunshots were pumped into his body.

He was immediatel­y rushed to a government hospital where he was declared dead.

The incident occurred at around 2 pm near a liquor vending unit at Jharsa road during the busy rush hour but also at a place that adjoins NH-8 and is few kilometres away from the Commission­er's office situated in Civil Lines.

The board of public doctors are carrying out post mortem of Rana's body.

The reason for killing Rana has still not been ascertaine­d by the police. Initially, it was believed that Rana was killed in a the incident of road rage.

However, in the evening, his wife lodged a formal complaint against four suspects that also involves one woman involved in killing her husband. The case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station under Sections 302 (murder), 34 (murderous act committed by several person) of the IPC and 25-54-59 of the arms act.

According to police, the fomer journalist had come to Jharsa road for some work. As he was approachin­g towards his SUV, a group of people in Hyundai Santro came towards him, hit his SUV and started arguing with him which ultimately led to Rana being shot dead.

After the incident was reported, various senior officers of crime branch including Sumit Kuhar, DCP (crime) came and surveyed the spot.

“As of now it will be too premature to tell the reasons for this daring crime. We have registered the complaint and begun the investigat­ion. We will soon make the headway in the case and catch the culprits involved in the murderous act,” said a senior police official from Gurugram police.

Surender Singh Rana, a resident of Shanti Nagar area of Old Gurugram had worked as a journalist and a marketing profession­al in a local television channel. He had quit his job a month ago and was working in a multinatio­nal company (MNC). GHAZIABAD: Two unidentifi­ed men gunned down a 40-year-old timber vendor inside his office in Hindon Industrial area of Ghaziabad at around 12:30 pm on Friday.

The two armed men entered the deceased Mohabbat's office, who was running a timber business in the area, and started firing several rounds at him.

The men fired many rounds of bullet on him out of which six bullets hit his chest and head. The assailants easily fled away from the spot after committing the crime.

“We are trying to find out if the victim was into any type of rivalry with anyone. The samples have been collected by the forensic department and they are investigat­ing the case," said Shyam Narayan Singh, Superinten­dent of Police, Ghaziabad. NOIDA: Intensifyi­ng their protest on the third consecutiv­e day, hundreds of ad-hoc teachers (Shiksha mitras) across the city gheraoed the residence of Union Minister of state, Mahesh Sharma, located in Noida sector 15A on Friday.

The protesters also blocked the Noida-delhi road which created traffic congestion for over an hour.

The protest was led following Supreme Court's orders that quashed the appointmen­t of 1.78 lakhs Shiksha Mitras in the state who were regularize­d as primary school teachers in 2014. The protestors, including women Shiksha Mitras, started their protest on Wednesday but intensifie­d it on Friday. They marched to minister's house and blocked the DND flyway which created long traffic snarls.

The Minister met them at his residence where the protestors handed him their written memorandum on the name of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath. The protest was called off after the minister assured them that he will put their demands in front of the Chief Minister of the state and also said that he will also discuss the matter with the union education minister.

“We met the minister and he assured us that the government would bring an ordinance to fulfill our demands if needed. However, we will keep our protest going until we see concrete steps taken and not just promises. On Saturday we will meet the District President of Bhartiya Janta Party, Gautam Buddh Nagar and hand over our memorandum to his also on the name of National President of the party” said a protestor.
