Ggn downpour causes traffic snarls, thousands left stranded
GURUGRAM: Heavy rains lashed Gurugram on Wednesday morning and caused traffic to move at snail’s pace in various parts of the city due to water logging.
Around 32 millimetres of rain was recorded in the city till afternoon.
While the rains brought huge respite to the residents in making the weather cooler and pleasant, thousands of commuters had to bear the brunt with huge water logging on city roads.
Even though there were claims by the city civic body of cleaning the drains, in various areas like in Sector -14, Udyog Vihar and Sector-29, the water levels were one to two feet deep.
Other areas in the city that were affected by water logging and traffic jams included Golf Course road, Sohna road, MG road, Old- Delhi road, Sector -23, HUDA City Centre, Pataudi chowk and Kataria chowk.
Huge amount of water on the roads was also reported from various service lanes of National- Highway 8, however, the presence of police prevented massive jams at various intersections along the Delhijaipur highway.
After the rains subsided, huge amount of workforce was deployed by the civic agencies to pump out water from the main traffic routes.
“It is unfortunate when roads like Golf Course road that have been recently revamped after years of labour and crores of amounts being spent also get affected by massive traffic jams. Perhaps this sums up the present condition of a city which is being hyped up into a world class city but is still struggling to get its act together fully,” said Rajiv Malhotra, a city resident. NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his residence in Sant Nagar, Burari in north Delhi on Tuesday night.
The boy hailed originally from Manipur and was a student of Satyawati College . The reason for the suicide is still not clear as no suicide note has been found, police said.
When two of his friends came at his home and the door was not opened, despite repeated knocking, they informed the cops.
He was declared brought dead by the doctors. The cops have informed the family and body has been sent for the postmortem.
