NEW DELHI: Four days after Quick Response Team (QRT) vehicle of Delhi Police went missing from a South Extension area, the law enforcement agency on Thursday have found that the time when the QRT was stolen, it was supposed to have been parked inside the Tughlak Road Police Station premises.

Instead, the driver of the vehicle took it to his home which resulted in the alleged theft.

Notably, the incident is reported few days before the Independence Day, the time when threat perception is higher, especially in the National capital.

The vehicle theft took place on August 6 from South Extension-i area after the driver went home in the vehicle and parked it outside his house in Kotla Mubarakpur. Later, when he returned to the parking spot, he found the vehicle to be missing.

A PCR call was immediately made and messages flashed across the city. Following the incident, an FIR was also registered.

“The vehicle was only used to take policemen from one place to another, there is no wireless set or any important documents inside the vehicle,” said a police official.

The official further added that the vehicle was also driven by a private driver and they do not allow anyone to take the vehicle to their home.

It should have been properly parked inside the premises of the Tughlaq Road police station, the official added.

The official remained tight lipped when asked whether they will take any action against the driver.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ishwar Singh said that they have been scanning the CCTV footages of the area and will soon apprehend the person behind the theft.

“We have launched a manhunt in search of the vehicle and will soon recover it,” said Singh.

Delhi Police, in order to avoid such incidents ahead of Independence Day, have claimed to make tight security arrangements in the national Capital and have reportedly conducted over a dozen mock drills to thwart possible terror threats.

“Security has been heightened at popular markets in south and central Delhi, apart from Lutyens’ Delhi,” said a police official.
