Second campus of DTU to be thrown open today

NEW DELHI: Aspirants seeking a career in technical education will soon get a new opportunit­y, as the Delhi government is all set inaugurate the second campus of Delhi Technologi­cal University (DTU) on Friday in East Delhi Campus at Vivek Vihar, a first of its kind technologi­cal institute in East Delhi.

Moreover, another new campus – which will be built in Khichdipur area of East Delhi – will also have some new courses.

“Draft proposal is already prepared will be tabled before the Delhi cabinet in the next meeting for final approval. If everything goes on the track, the government hopes to have constructi­on work started by the end of the year,” an officer said.

August 18 will be historical in the chapter of DTU, earlier known as Delhi College of Engineerin­g (DCE). The DTU has already establishe­d its “University School of Business Entreprene­urship” at Vivek Vihar phase II” senior official at DTU said.

Initially, three courses will be on offer at the East Delhi Campus of DTU, namely MBA, BBA, BA Economics (H).

The total number of seats for various courses in the first session will be 300 seats; 60 seats for MBA, 120 seats for BBA and 120 seats for BA Economics (H). Rs 65, 000 has been set as fees for the two undergradu­ates courses.

Speaker of Delhi Assembly Ram Niwas Goel welcomed the initiative for opening the East Delhi Campus.

An Delhi government official also said that the new DTU campus will benefit the people of east Delhi significan­tly. The government also wishes to generate more options for the students of Delhi, so that they do not have to leave the city to get a good education.

The official added the next phase of DTU will be constructe­d in ITI Khichdipur. “We have plans to build two new academic blocks and three new hostels inside the campus in the first phase. Delhi government has a target of total 12,000 students to enroll in DTU, once new campus come into existence.”
