TEACHERS RECRUITMENT PUT ON HOLD

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday put the recruitment of around 9,000 teachers by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) on hold till a criterion is readied to give weightage to guest teachers.

In the recently-concluded Monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly, the House passed a resolution to put on hold the recruitment of teachers till a criterion is readied to give weightage to guest teachers, in accordance with a Supreme Court ruling.

“On appeal from Delhi govt and Delhi Assembly, Ltgovdelhi holds teacher recruitment. Am sure Guest Teachers regularization will get justice now,” Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted.

The DSSSB had released an advertisement for recruitment of teachers stating that existing guest and contract teachers would get “age relaxation” for the number of years they taught in government schools.

The advertisement, however, did not talk about any weightage to be given to them in the recruitment process – which the government has been advocating.

The government is of the view that along with age relaxation to the existing guest or contract teachers, they should also be granted weightage or preference against the services they have rendered.

The public notice issued by the DSSSB on Thursday stated: “Directorate of Education conveyed to DSSSB, the decision of the competent authority, to keep its requisitions in abey- ance in respect of all posts till further instructions.”

“Accordingly, the vacancies for all the post codes (14/17, 17/17 to 80/17) of Directorate of Education are hereby withdrawn,” the notice stated.

The Delhi Cabinet had decided on October 6, 2015, to give guest teachers a relaxation in age and preference in the recruitment of permanent teachers.

There are around 50,000 teachers working in Delhi government schools, of which around 17,000 are guest or contract teachers.

The AAP government has been insisting that the work experience of these teachers be given weightage.
