- SAYANTAN GHOSH

NEW DELHI: Delhi government is likely to set up a tourism advisory board to make the Capital a more popular tourist destination, Delhi Tourism Minister Manish Sisodia proposed on Thursday.

Sisodia said that the team will come up with innovative ideas to develop the national Capital into a national tourist hub, suggest ideas and direct the implementations.

Sisodia, on Thursday, attended the ‘Destination Delhi: Socio Economic Perspective of Art, Culture and Tourism’, organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He emphasised on the social circuit, adding that there are several things such as government schools, ‘mohalla clinics’, night shelters developed by the Delhi government that could interest many who will be willing to pay visits to these facilities.

According to Sisodia, tourism in the city cannot be developed without involving Delhiites and suggested for special packages for the locals.

Being the Capital of India, Delhi attracts many tourists every day. However, the tourism sector is not strong in the city.

With an aim to improve the condition of the tourism sector, Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister, was handed over the Tourism department a month back.

“We don’t have beaches mountains or landscapes in Delhi, we need to check what Delhi has and make beauty out of it. I suggested to my Secretary that we should have a Delhi Tourism Advisory Board so that ideation never stops,” said Sisodia.

The Minister suggested that the team would be made up of tourism experts, professionals, representatives of industry, media and market associations who could come up with innovative ideas on the development of tourism in Delhi.

“Hence, I invite the best of the best expertise in tourism industry to bring forward proposals. We are receptive,” he said.

The Tourism minister also said that his Department should conduct a survey among the residents of Delhi to know whether they struggle to decide places to visit in Delhi.
