Police raid dera in Krishna NAGAR, STAGE flag MARCH

NEW DELHI: Taking a tough stand against the violent followers of Dera Sacha Sauda in the national Capital, Delhi Police on Saturday raided the

dera (camp) of the convicted self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Krishna Nagar area of Delhi.

The police team on Saturday morning, led by senior police officers, raided the dera premises and searched for incriminat­ing material and/ or documents. Singh’s Harley Davidson motorcycle was found at the place, secure behind a glass enclosure.

Though Section 144 had been imposed on Friday evening in various parts of Delhi, the police team examined the dera once again as a preventive measure to make sure that no unwanted persons had gathered there.

“We went to the dera to make sure no unwanted men had gathered there. We are cautious as we saw that some supporters resorted to violence in the Capital on Friday. We also wanted to make not that more than four people were present at the spot” said a senior police officer.

Additional­ly, Delhi Police personnel also staged a flag march in various parts of Delhi. The DCP of various areas, along with the patrolling party, took the march to bring a sense of security amongst residents of the city. Anti riot teams also paraded alongside district police officials.

Violence and vandalism on the streets of Delhi on Friday compelled senior officers to personally monitor the situation closely.

“After Section 144 was imposed, all Joint CPS, DCPS and SHOS were present in their respective areas and monitored the situation personally at night,” said a senior police officer. The strict vigil by cops ensured that peace prevailed in the Capital on Saturday night. No incidents of arson and rioting were reported.

Cops were seen patrolling the streets. DCP East Omvir Singh, accompanie­d by around 100 policemen, patrolled various localities of Trilokpuri. Police paid special attention was given to areas prone to violence.
