Irregularities in cooperative: Minister orders strict action

- SAYANTAN GHOSH

In a surprise visit to a Delhi Co-operative wholesale shop at Moti Nagar, the Cooperative Minister of Delhi Rajendra Gautam found various irregularities regarding the distribution of products and staffs.

After getting a lead from his sources, the minister visited the area with the senior officials of the department. He has ordered a stringent action against the irregularities and also asked for the report from the department.

“You should not take the government for granted and deceive people in this way,” Gautam said to the staffers present in the shop. In his visit, he checked the files and work allocation to the staffers where the irregularities were found.

“Cooperative works for the poor people in the city and to deliver affordable but quality goods and it should do the work for the interest of the public,” he said. A source in the government informed that after the discussion he asked various questions to the officials which they failed to answer. “Corruption in the department cannot be tolerated and these officials would be punished,” he added.

In Delhi, the complaints against the cooperatives and wholesale shops are not new. There had been complaints of hoarding, financial irregularities and also the absence of staff.

Talking about this issue, a senior official of Registrar cooperative society said, “We have a huge staff crunch and informed this to minister. Co-operative is wide spread administration and everywhere we cannot monitor.”

The cooperative officials also presented all the facts and work structure to the minister.
