DUSU polls: ABVP gearing up to counter Leftist ideology

NEW DELHI: Amid the election fervour in Delhi University, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is gearing up to spread its ideology across the campus to reign supreme once again in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls.

Appealing to students to stand against Leftist ideology, 61 devoted poll campaigners, or ‘vistaraks’, have been assigned. Leaders of the Rss-affiliated rightwing students’ organisation exuded confidence, saying they will be very successful in the DUSU election, scheduled for September 12.

Some ABVP members said that during their manto-man campaigns, they will enlighten students on how some professor and NGOS are working for the Naxalites.

Saket Bahuguna, ABVP’S national media coordinator, said: “ABVP’S panel in DU is very strong and saffron will rule the DUSU polls this year.”

Stating that students’ issues will be priority for his organisation, Bahuguna added: “But we also need to make students aware of the spread of urban-naxalism in the Campus. In DU, Communist leaders are working by hiding their identity.”

On the point of defacement of DU property, he said: “ABVP also urged DU election authorities to allocate separate ‘Democracy walls’ in colleges for putting up posters. There are very few such walls.

“Allocate separate walls and we will ensure no one puts up posters across the city,” Bahuguna said.

He further said that reaching out to large number of students without using posters was not possible.

Discussing the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union poll, Bahuguna suggested presidential-style debates.

“There should be presidential debates conducted online, as holding it directly would not be feasible, considering the scale of students who would attend the event,” he said.

Bahuguna also emphasised that student politics scenario in both the central universities of Delhi is very different.

“In JNU, Left wings have united to fight against ABVP, while in DU, they will not succeed,” Bahuguna stated.
