Cleanlines­s a key issue in Gurugram civic polls

GURUGRAM: Angry over poor upkeep of the city in terms of cleanlines­s, residents of Gurugram want to make it as one of the key issues when they would vote to elect their councillor on September 24. Despite slew of measures announced by the civic body towards ensuring cleanlines­s, residents have complained that the situation has not improved much.

One of the major complaints that have been raised is how the vacant plots in various residentia­l colonies, sectors and main markets are being converted into the garbage dumpyards. In the past, a complaint was also sent to the Prime Minister Office in this regard on how the heaps of garbage were piling in a vacant area in Old Gurugram that had a primary school in close proximity. Similar complaints have also been raised by the residents of Sector-56, Sector-17 to the public officials.

In the cleanlines­s survey released by the Union Government out of 434 participat­ing cities in May, Gurugram was placed at the 112th rank.

While the aim of the officials was to place Gurugram among the top 15 clean places of the country, the ranking has highlighte­d the challenges for clean Gurugram.

At a time when the city is grappling with diseases like diahorrea, dengue, malaria, citizens highlighte­d that these ailments are becoming widespread due to poor hygiene and sanitation.

Even though Municipal Corporatio­n of Gurugram has signed a pact with a Chinese company to convert waste into power at Bandhwari landfill site, uncertaint­ies have been raised on when the project will start. GREATER NOIDA: A Class 2 student of a government school at Dadri was crushed to death under a vehicle that had come to deliver mid-day meal on Monday morning. The police have arrested the driver of the vehicle and registered a case against him.

According to Ramsen Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station, the deceased student has been identified as Sachin, 8. His father works as a daily waged labourer.

“The incident occurred while Sachin was heading towards the school. The boy was crushed under the wheels of a tempo which supplied food for the mid-day meals. He was rushed to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad where doctors declared him brought dead. The body has been sent for the post mortem and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested. A case of negligent driving has been registered against him at Dadri police station,” said Singh.

According to the report, the man was driving the vehicle speedily and did not see the boy and ran over him. Soon after the incident, the locals and the family members of the deceased reached the spot and jammed the road. Heavy police force was deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. Officials from district education board also reached the spot to understand the cause of the accident. NOIDA: A 19-year-old domestic maid allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her employer’s house in the B-block of Sector 19, Noida on Monday morning, said police officials.

The deceased has been identified as Rekha who hailed from West Bengal. She lived on the third floor of her employer’s house in a servant quarter. The victim committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.

According to reports, the victim was seen hanging with the ceiling fan by her employer at around 6:20 am. The door of her room was open when the employer went upstairs to call her.

They immediatel­y made a phone call and informed the police about the incident.

The police officers soon reached the spot and pulled the body down and sent it for autopsy.

“As the informatio­n was received to us, a police team reached the spot. We took the body into custody and sent it for the post mortem. We have not received any suicide note from the post. However, we are yet to ascertain the actual reason which made her to go for the extreme step,” said Anil Kumar Shahi, station house officer, Sector 20 police station.

“We are trying to gather the CCTV footages and other essential evidences. Prima facie investigat­ions have revealed that she was having an affair with a man. We will also try to look into her call details and will also investigat­e her other co workers,” added Shahi.
