Delhi govt orders magisterial inquiry

NEW DELHI: A day after the rape of a five-year-old girl inside a school at Gandhinagar, the Delhi government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also assured that the government will come up with stricter guidelines for safety of children in the city schools, adding that such incidents will not be tolerated.

"Shameful. Won't be tolerated. Police doing its job. Ordered magsterial enquiry. Will develop protocol 4 all schools 2 ensure children safety," he tweeted late on Saturday.

The investigation would be headed by the sub-divisional magistrate of Vivek Vihar, informed Delhi Revenue minister Kailash Gahlot. He also noted that the inquiry report should be submitted in three days, as per the order.

A source in the government said that it will start working on formulating of the guide- lines soon.

For this purpose, the Chief Minister is likely to hold consultations with police, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), teachers, parents, experts and students.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the portfolio of Women and Child Department and Home, will also be a part of the team that will make the guidelines.

The announcement of preparing guidelines for children's safety in schools has been welcomed by people across the city.

Delhi Commission for Women also appreciated the decision to formulate new guidelines on safety of children.
