NSUI demands recounting of Joint Secretary post result, may move court

NEW DELHI: In a major comeback after five years in Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), Congress led NSUI suspected over the malpractic­e in the recounting of votes.

Consequent­ly, on Thursday, NSUI approached the Delhi University Grievance Cell demanding a recounting of votes polled for the post of Joint Secretary in the student’s body election held on Tuesday.

“We have given our complaint to the grievance cell. We are also planning to move the High Court, depending on the decision of the cell,” the Congress party’s student wing member Neeraj Mishra said on Thursday. The NSUI supporters have been demonstrat­ing outside the cell since Wednesday, he said.

“They (the grievance cell) have given us time till Thursday evening. If we are not satisfied with their decision we will move to High Court,” the National Students Union of India member added.

The NSUI on Wednesday bagged the posts of President and Vice President of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), while its arch-rival ABVP secured the posts of Secretary and Joint Secretary.

The NSUI has been alleg- ing malpractic­e in the counting of votes for the Joint Secretary post in which Rashtriya Swayamseva­k Sangh-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s Uma Shankar defeated Avinash Yadav of the NSUI by a slim margin of 342 votes.

It had been earlier announced that the NSUI candidate had won, but the result was reversed later. The NSUI has alleged rigging of votes for the post. NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old employee of Air India SATS was arrested for baggage theft. Police said that the accused Arnab Ghoshal was a B.SC. graduate from West Bengal and has been working as Customer Service Agent (CSA) in Air India SATS, IGI Airport since past one and a half years.

According to police on Monday, Kishan Lal an employee of AI SATS, was deputed for getting customs clearance of nine bags. He got custom clearance of these bags and went to Domestic Arrival for in line induction.

After some time, he noticed that one of the nine bags was missing. He reported the matter to his seniors. Thereafter, on the complaint was registered.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia stated that investigat­ion police team scanned the CCTV footage covering the arrival hall of Internatio­nal Terminal.

During analysis of the CCTV footage, the suspected person was carrying the stolen bag. The accused was apprehende­d and interrogat­ed where he confessed that he has stolen the bag. One more bag was also found in his room and on confrontin­g the accused disclosed that the same was also stolen from him earlier. NEW DELHI: Delhi Police is looking for a man deserted his one month old baby after handing it over to a woman in Mohalla Clinic in Adarsh Nagar on Thursday.

The primary concern of the police was to look after the infant’s health and therefore got her admitted to the Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital nursery.

However, the man is still untraced.

The man who was standing in a queue with a girl child in his arms tricked a 40-year-old woman in the Mohalla Clinic near Azadpur flyover.

He asked her if she could hold the child for a moment as he was going to get some water for himself.

“The unsuspecti­ng woman held the child but the man did not return even after an hour. When the man absconded , the husband of the woman made a PCR call and informed police about the incident,” said a senior police officer.

Sensing the sensitivit­y of the case, the policemen soon formed teams to locate the accused.

The condition of the baby is said to be stable where a team of doctors is monitoring the health of the girl child.
