IIT graduate jumps to his death in Gurugram

Police said that victim Ankit Wadhwa was suffering from acute depression and was unhappy with his current job profile

GURUGRAM: A 26-year-old graduate from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 23rd floor of a residential apartment in Golf Course road late Sunday night.

The deceased, identified as Ankit Wadhwa, belonged from Sri Ganga Nagar district in Rajasthan. He was working in Mumbai and had come to Gurugram to pursue higher studies, and was staying with an uncle in DLF Magnolias.

Police said that Wadhwa was suffering from acute depression, which caused him to take the extreme step.

Law enforcement officials claimed that he had been grappling with the problem for a long time. He was also reportedly dissatisfied with his current job profile.

His parents have been informed of the incident. The body will be handed over to them after post-mortem.

Gaurav Phogat, Station Head Officer, Sushant Lok police station said, “At the moment, it seems that it is a case of suicide committed under acute depression. We have registered a case and will explore other angles that led to his untimely death."

"Based on our conversation with his acquaintances, he was planning to pursue higher studies and was about to sit for an entrance examination in the management institute,” Phogat added.

Incidents of working professionals committing suicide have become frequent in the Millennium City. In April, a 42-year-old working mother jumped to death from the seventh floor of an office complex in Sohna road.

Dr Ranjana Yadav, a psychologist in the city, observed, "There is a need to tackle depression at workplaces especially at MNC'S, where most of the employees are under lot of pressure to deliver."
