Elderly to get pension before Diwali: South Delhi Mayor

NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n (SDMC) on Friday said it is well aware of the difficulti­es being faced by beneficiar­ies of its old age pension scheme and has issued detailed instructio­ns to ensure disburseme­nt of the arrears before Diwali.

South Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, “The SDMC has been taking all steps to clear arrears of the beneficiar­ies. The Corporatio­n has decided to disburse old age pension/financial assistance to eligible beneficiar­ies for a period of six month, that is from January 2016 to June 2016.”

“The Corporatio­n has allocated an amount of Rs 34.94 crore for disburseme­nt of pension to 58,241 eligible benefi- ciaries in all the four zones,” Sehrawat added.

The highest number of beneficiar­ies is in Central Zone, i.e. 19,153, followed by 15,393 in South Zone, 13,221 in Najafgarh Zone and 10,474 in West Zone.

Deputy Commission­ers of the civic body have been requested to compile and furnish the number of existing recipients of financial assistance in each ward under the discretion­ary quota of Mayor, Chairman of Standing Committee, Leader of House and Leader of Opposition separately.

In another developmen­t, the Corporatio­n adopted a resolution moved by the Leader of House to include private commercial buildings situated on commercial roads in the civic body’s new 2017 advertisin­g policy.
