Major facelift of Greater Noida’s roads to begin in Nov

GREATER NOIDA: Greater Noida Industrial Developmen­t Authority (GNIDA) will soon initiate a drive to repair and resurface a majority of the network of arterial and major roads across the city, which have become hotspots of repeated road fatalities.

According to officials of the Authority, the roads which will be restructur­ed and refurbishe­d include all the link roads connecting villages to cities, interior roads, Dadri-surajpur-chhallera (DSC) route, the 130-metre road connecting Greater Noida to Noida and Ghaziabad, link roads in Greater Noida West and all other major roads in the city.

The overall procedure of resurfacin­g will take around three-four months to complete and is expected to begin in November.

Chief Executive Officer, GNIDA, Debashish Panda said, “We have directed the officials of concerned department­s to prepare a list of all roads that bear a torn look and causes problem for the commuters.

“Once a report is submitted to us, we will begin with the constructi­on work. We will not compromise on carrying out any developmen­t work in the city, even if the authority faces a financial crisis,” added Panda.

While carrying out the constructi­on work at the busy roads, the Authority will also work towards easing the flow of traffic.

“We will ensure an unaffected flow of traffic on the roads, while carrying out the road repair works. The drive will be initiated collective­ly at all damaged roads. The repair works will include patchwork and resurfacin­g. Our top priority will be such roads which are used often by commuters and where the surface has crumbled completely,” said a senior GNIDA official.

The Authority has also allotted a separate budget for resurfacin­g badly damaged roads in a few villages. “We will also focus on improving rural road connectivi­ty and have planned that all villages across the city will have black top roads” added the official.

GREATER NOIDA: A 35-year-old man was killed, while his friend received serious injuries, after a speeding truck hit them while they had got out of their car to check on the deflated tyre of their car at the Noida-greater Noida Expressway, said police.

According to police, the incident occurred late Sunday night, when the deceased Vikram Singh, a resident of Etah district, was on his way to meet his relative, along with his friend Munesh.

While travelling towards Delhi, one of their vehicles tyres got punctured near Jhatta Badauli village. Just as the two stepped out of the car to change deflated the tire, a speeding truck came from behind and hit them. The offending driver is said to be absconding.

“On receiving the informatio­n, a police team rushed to the post. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared one of them brought dead. The other occupant of the car was severely injured. The injured person is receiving treatment at the hospital, while the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. The families of the victims have been informed,” said a senior police official at Knowledge park police station.

The officer added, “The truck driver fled the spot after the incident. We are trying to make all possible efforts to identify the driver and nab him as soon as possible.”
