NEW DELHI: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested fugitive gangster-turned-gunrunner Kapil Sharma, alias Azgar, from Dwarka along with his associate Rahul, a history sheeter at Dabri police station.

A total 10 pistols, including one sophisticated and nine country-made, five live cartridges and a scooty were recovered from the accused.

Sharma is a member of notorious Saddam Gauri gang in Delhi’s south west District and was wanted for a murder in Dabri in March this year.

Based on a tip-off, on the intervening night of October 30 and 31, a team of the Crime Branch laid a trap for Sharma and Rahul, who were supposed to come near Indraprastha University in West Delhi’s Dwarka.

Upon identification, both were immediately arrested.

A sophisticated pistol of .32 bore loaded with five live cartridges was recovered from Sharma and a country-made pistol of .315 bore was recovered from Rahul.

Eight more country-made pistols of .315 bore were recovered from a bag carried that Sharma was carrying.

A case under appropriate sections of the law has been registered.

Sharma, who hails from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, came to Delhi in 2007 in search of a livelihood and started living in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. After doing petty jobs for a while in Uttam Nagar, such as working as an icecream vendor, he began indulging in crime from 2013.

He was first arrested in two cases of theft at Bindapur.

“A dispute had erupted between one Mustafa, a desperate criminal and member of Jaswant gang in Dabri, and Pankaj, a friend of the accused Sharma. On March 8, a quarrel took place between Mustafa and Pankaj near Rescue Hospital, Dabri. During the fight, Sharma shot dead Mustafa and immediately fled the spot,” said DCP (Crime) Bhishm Singh told reporters on Saturday.

Later, Pankaj was arrested in the case, while Sharma was found to be absconded.

It came to light that Sharma had fled to his native place in Ghaziabad and soon he was declared a proclaimed offender in the case of Mustafa’s murder.
