Delhi Govt to give free IAS coaching to SC/ST students
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government is all set to give free tuition for the civil services, engineering exam aspirants from SC/ ST and underprivileged backward communities. The Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam has announced to launch the scheme on November 26. The finance department and the Cabinet have approved the move, asserted sources.
“The government has planned to give free education for SC/ST students providing coaching classes in Delhi for professional courses, such as civil services, engineering and others,” said Gautam. The minister asserted that the government will not arrange separate classes for these students but the whole the trainings will happen with general students. “I believe that separate tutorials for SC/ST children in these professional courses are not helpful but I am confident that they have all the potential to seat in the same class with others,” Gautam said.
The officials elaborated that if an SC/ST student is registering for a professional coaching centre, then he or she will attend the same classroom teaching but the fee for the institution will be paid by the government. The aspirants of civil service, medical, engineering, SSC, group A and B level government jobs, will get this benefit, asserted an official.
“In the first phase these courses would be our focus area but with time depending on the response we might include some other courses too,” said the official. The department will spend the money from the SC/ST development fund of the government. “We have cleared all the finance formalities on this initiative and do not think any further clearance related issue will appear,” asserted the official.
In the first round of estimation, the department found that nearly 1,000 students are likely to enroll in this scheme. Gau- tam directed the officials to plan a meeting with all the heads of these coaching centres. After this meeting, the department will formulate some criteria for the students to come under this scheme.
The officials said that after the enrollment of any SC/ST student to any coaching centre the institution head should check the criteria of the student thereafter approach the government to pay the fees. “There would be some rounds of fact checking and filtering in these cases,” said the officials.
After the launch of the scheme on November 26, the scheme is likely to come into effect from December. The minister Rajendra Gautam said: “I want to use the SC/ST fund for the educational development of these communities.”
