Hindon elevated road to be thrown open by January 2018: GDA

- RAHUL SINGH

GHAZIABAD: Commuting to Delhi from Ghaziabad is set to get easier as Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is gearing up to get the remaining work completed on the 10.3 km-long Hindon elevated road, which will connect Raj Nagar to the UP Gate, near the Delhiuttar Pradesh border.

Officials said the entire stretch will be thrown open to commuters by January 2018.

“We have issued notice to the contractor to speed up the remaining construction work. If he fails to get the work completed by December end, the company will be blacklisted by the Authority. We are focused that the work faces no further delays,” said Ritu Maheshwari, vice-chairwoman, GDA.

The six-lane Hindon project is pegged at Rs 1,147.6 crore and is already running four months behind schedule due to various reasons. Work for the project, which has already missed three deadlines, had commenced in 2014. Its previous deadline was April 2017.

“The project was first delayed due to the National Green Tribunal's NOC and later got stuck due to shifting of power transmission lines near Vasundhara. But now, all major hindrances have been removed and more than 90 per cent work on the elevated road has been completed. All we have left now is construction of the rail over bridge (ROB) near Hindon barrage, which is expected to be finished by next month,” said a senior GDA official.

The elevated road, being built along the Hindon canal, is expected to boost traffic connectivity between Ghaziabad and UP Gate.
