Stall construction, stop traffic Into DELHI: LG
NEW DELHI: Every construction activity and traffic entering into Delhi would be stalled till further order, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday.
The LG also instructed the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation and Delhi Transport Corporation to increase trips so that more people can travel by state transport. He further urged the transport department to make preparations for implementation of the oddeven scheme.
“Stop civil construction activities in the city. It should be implemented by civic bodies, DPCC and all construction agencies till further orders,” Baijal said after a meeting with representatives of Delhi government, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and civic agencies.
He also directed imposition of fine/penalties on all road construction agencies/ contractors.
Baijal further instructed the Delhi government and Public Works Department to increase sprinkling of water to avoid dust.
“Civic agencies should increase parking fees four times and stop use of firewood and coal in hotels and eateries,” Baijal said.
He called for strictly enforcement of the ban on electricity generator sets, with exceptions as defined by DPCC for essential services.
At the meeting, Baijal said that the traffic police should intensify traffic management at all hot spots and increase deployment of traffic police to avoid congestion.
He also observed that until the condition improves there should not be any open burning in the city.
The LG also urged the parents of the children in the city and the Education depart- ment of the Delhi government to stop all outdoor activities involving schools.
Meanwhile, the Environment department of Delhi government issued an advisory for citizens of Delhi, urging them to join hands with the government.
“Observe environmentfriendly behaviour. Keep the environment healthy, not only by words but also by your actions,” observed the statement.
It added that people should use carpooling and public transport, as much as possible.
“Avoid going outdoors during early morning and late evening for the walk or outdoor physical activity as the pollution levels are maximum during this time,” the statement noted.
