CAR PLUNGES INTO YAMUNA, TWO DIE

- ZAFAR ABBAS

In a tragic accident, two youths on Thursday lost their lives when their car plunged into Timarpur Yamuna bank. Three others seated in the car were rescued by divers. A night-out with friends took a tragic end when Deepak Jangir and Krishna Yadav, both residents of Hauz Khas, were out at night in their car with three other friends.

Sources said that another Deepak was driving the car and Krishan sat with him while Deepak Jangir, Akash and Anand were on the back seats. While driving, they went to Timarpur Yamuna bank with an intention to stay there for some time, said sources.

However, dense fog at Jagatpur village in Timarpur left them confused about the clear route. As the car moved towards the Yamuna bank, the boys failed to realise that they are in trouble a few metres ahead. Before Deepak could steer the car away from the bank, it fell in the Yamuna getting half submerged in water. The three others raised alarm but Deepak and Krishan could not be saved.

“The boys were fully drenched in water when they reached the picket staff nearby and narrated the incident. Our staff soon rushed to the spot and called fire brigade and the divers for the rescue operation. However, two of them could not be saved,” said a senior police officer.

However, the divers could save only three of the car occupants whereas two died while being taken to the hospital. Cops are investigating if they were in inebriated state.

Deepak's mother is with Delhi police while Krishan‘s maternal aunt is serving with Delhi Police. Both of them were from Jhunjhnu in Rajasthan.
