SDMC offers house tax scheme for unauthorised colonies

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday approved an amnesty scheme to provide substantial relief to the residential property tax assessees in unauthorised colonies. According to the revised provision, property holders in unauthorized colonies will become entitled to 100 per cent remission of the amount related to interest and penalty on making payment by December 3 of the amount of property tax due on November 13 this year.

The Chairman of standing committee Bhupender Gupta said that the scheme will include the owners of all those properties, who have not submitted tax return from April 1, 2004, or not submitted the return on regular basis or the owners whose assessment has not been done from 2004 and ahead. “Further all residential properties in unauthorized colonies where the matter is pending before ‘Municipal Tax Tribunal' or other courts will also get benefit under the scheme,” he said.

Gupta also stated that the property owners who make up to date payments of tax will become entitled to cent-percent remission of the amount in respect of interest and penalty. “The owners will have to make a declaration which will be accepted by the department. The scheme is meant to provide relief to the maximum number of property owners and to extend to tax net of the corporation,” Gupta added.
