‘Julie 2’ inspired by renowned actress of 90’s

-

MUMBAI: The story of the protagonist in Julie 2 is based on the life of a well-known glamorous actress of the 1990s and 2000s. The film’s makers are withholding the actor’ name to avoid legal trouble for the film, says its presenter Pahlaj Nihalani.

As a hint, the actress concerned started her career with a Hindi film featuring one of the Khan superstars. But it was her blooming career in the south, in Tamil and Telugu cinema, that made her a star. However, her affair with a married Tamil- Telugu superstar drove her out of the south Indian film industry and she went on to become a big name in Bhojpuri films.

Such incidents and episodes from the real-life actress are replicated faithfully in Julie 2.

Julie 2 lead actress Raai Laxmi said: “I am not denying the similarities between my character and the actress. These similarities are there. I don’t know if they’re deliberate or just a coincidence.”

However, Nihalani said: “It’s definitely based on the actress.... In fact, one of the main actors who are part of our cast was also involved with that actress. We are not naming her as we don’t want our film to be stopped.”

“But once the film opens, it will be obvious to all which real-life actress Raai Laxmi is playing.”

Does Nihalani anticipate any legal trouble?

“It’s possible that the actress may recognize herself and come forward. However, we have made sure she is not mentioned anywhere in any of the press meets.” LONDON: Actor Margot Robbie says she is proud to be a woman after getting a “supportive” response in the wake of the sexual harassment allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein. Robbie, 27, has praised the resilience of the women who have come forward to accuse the disgraced producer of sexual misconduct. She says the attitude from other Hollywood stars who want to make a change in the way women are treated has made her “proud to be a woman”, dailytelegraph.com. au reports. “Women are so resilient and I think the response to the whole Weinstein situation kind of proved that. To me, when I think of women, I think the word that sums up women so well but isn’t used as often as it should be is ‘resilient’,” she said. It’s astounding how quickly everyone pivoted from being heartbroken about the news to, how do we move forward? How can we move forward? What good can come out of this? Everyone was so supportive immediately and then automatically looking to the future, which made me even more proud to be a woman,” she added. This comes after the she praised Cara Delevingne for opening up about the ordeal she endured at the hands of Weinstein. Burton claimed Affleck, 45, groped her when she was a host of MTV’S TRL in 2003. The incident resurfaced after Affleck condemned the sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein saying he was “saddened and angered” by claims against him. “What I was accused of by a woman was touching her breast while I gave her a hug. I don’t remember it, but I absolutely apologise for it. I certainly don’t think she’s lying or making it up,” Affleck told Stephen Colbert on his ‘Late Show’. “As men, I think as we become more aware of this we need to be really mindful of our behaviour and hold ourselves accountable and say, ‘if I was ever part of the problem, I want to change, I want to be a part of the solution’,” he added. The Justice League actor also said it was “awful” to find out about the extent of the “terrible crimes” committed by Weinstein. I thought I understood the extent of the problem, and I thought I had a handle on it,” Affleck said. “The truth is, I really didn’t. I didn’t understand what it was to be groped, to be harassed, to be interrupted, talked over, paid less, pushed around, all of the things that women deal with, that for me as a man I have the privilege of not having to deal with,” he added.
