Pollution: Badarpur Thermal Power Station shut till Mar ’18
NEW DELHI: In view of increasing concentration of poisonous gases such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide rose up to seven times permissible limit in November in Delhi and NCR, the Badarpur Thermal Power Station on the outskirts of Delhi has been closed from October 17 to March 15, 2018.
Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority for the National Capital Region (EPCA) ordered to shut down it. The EPCA is a committee constituted by the Central Government for the NCR in compliance with a Supreme Court (SC) order of January 7, 1998.
Expressing his views, General Manager of Badarpur Thermal Power Plant, Chandan Chakarborty, said that his plant always uses an equipment to monitor the environmental parameters. Chakarborty claimed that to check emission of gases like SO2, NO 2, PM 2.5, PM 10, CO2 and Ozone, we installed Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (AAQMS) at CISF Colony , Additional Township, Guest House at Panchwati.
He further said that additional equipment installed at Additional Township is used for monitoring Meteorological Data such as Air velocity, Wind direction, Rainfall, Ambient temperature, solar radiation and relative Humidity.
Chakarborty said that Badarpur Power station is 37 years old but it has been continuously modernized.
The gases like Sulphur and Carbon dioxide are danger for human being, the Badarpur plant installed continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) at the Chimney of stage 1 and 2 to monitor the SO2, NO2, Co, Co2, Flue Gas flow.
“With renovation and maintenance of all units, the stack emission is being maintained regularly,” says Chakarborty.
