AAP, BJP councillors file police complaints over ruckus in SDMC
NEW DELHI: Councillors of the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party lodged police complaints against each other on Thursday, for allegedly disrupting house proceedings and creating a ruckus during a Standing Committee meeting of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
The ruckus took place on Wednesday, after which SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat suspended 15 AAP councillors.
AAP councillor Kishanwati lodged a complaint at Kamla Market police station that she was assaulted, while BJP councillors lodged two counter-complaints with the DCP (Central Delhi).
Cops submitted Kishanwati's complaint to Sehrawat for her consideration, along with her medico-legal case report.
“The X-ray report and the MLC did not cite any fracture in her hand,” police said, adding that they have sought CCTV footage of the incident when councillors from both sides allegedly pushed and shoved each other.
AAP councillors were alleged to have torn papers in the Standing Committee meeting during the ruckus.
Sehrawat alleged that AAP councillors, including nominated MLAS and aldermen, were adamant on interrupting the proceedings without a valid reason.
“In a meeting with leaders of both AAP and Congress, I had sought their cooperation. I even avoided their slogan shouting, but it became imperative to take action when they misbehaved with women staff and tore papers,” Sehrawat said.
Slamming the statement AAP leaders said that on December 20, rattled over being exposed by AAP councillors in SDMC, BJP councillors manhandled AAP members.
The BJP members even went on to attack Krishnawati, a Dalit woman councillor of AAP, and injuring her, AAP alleged.
