Cheats provided fake appointment letters issued by MHA, duped many of Rs 20 lakh
NEW DELHI: A gang of cheats duped several unemployed youths of Rs 20 lakh on the pretext of providing them government jobs in New Delhi Municipal Corporation and Parliament. Interestingly, the gang also provided them with fake documents, appointment letters issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs before switching off their phones and absconding.
The meticulously planned cheating case started way back in 2016 when Vijender Kumar, a resident of Mukund Pur in Delhi, was contacted by his friend Ankit, a Meerut resident asking him to contact one Sumit Kumar at NDMC building in Connauaght Place for a government job. Vijender went to meet Sumit where he introduced him to Amit Chowdhary, Sanchit Kumar, Sumit Kumar where Sanchit and Amit told him that they are NDMC employees.
“Amit Chowdhary told me that he had good relations in NDMC, several ministries and Railways where there have several vacancies that needed to be filled urgently. Thereafter, men with him won my confidence saying that Amit has arranged government jobs for their relatives. Amit later asked me for Rs 4 lakh,” said Vijender.
Then through Vijender, accused Amit Chowdhary reached out to his friends and on the pretext of providing them jobs in Ministries, he asked them for money. Many of them paid several lakhs in installments to Amit who always called them to meet outside the NDMC building. One Amit Kumar was also given a fake appointment letter from the Ministry of Communication by Amit Chowdhary and was also somehow placed in a NDMC Barat Ghar under the supervision of one alleged permanent employee of NDMC.
One Kamal Tanwar was handed over a letter of appointment allegedly issued by Parliament House for the post of data operator by Amit. Later, the complainant has alleged that the man who came to verify posing as police officer resembled Amit's associate Sanchit. The Delhi Police has registered a case in Connaught Place police station under 420/468/471/120B and is looking for the six accused.
