SDMC ropes in SAI to develop four stadiums
NEW DELHI: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has decided to employ the expertise Sports of Authority of India (SAI), to turn its four major stadiums more conducive to the development of sports among children.
The decision has been taken with a view to promote sports in primary schools.
Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathor, who on Tuesday met three SDMC leaders, said, “SAI can provide its expertise for this purpose. It has been decided to upgrade SDMC’S four stadiums – Madipur, Harinagar, Kakrola and Delhi Gate.”
SDMC Standing Committee Chairman Bhupender Gupta said the civic body is committed to provide better sports facilities to students of primary schools.
“We told the Union Minister that SDMC has been inculcating interest in sports among children, in order to nurture them to make state/nation level players,” Gupta said.
The SDMC leader that for this the Corporation would require better stadiums and equipment.
Gupta further said that an MOU will be signed between SAI and SDMC.
SAI will depute a team of experts to study the present status of the stadiums in question.
A report will be prepared on the basis of the study and work of development will be taken up thereafter.
SAI will lay suitable grass for the different games and racing track and provide other advanced equipments.
Gupta added that this will go a long way in developing interest in sports among students.
