Cops in plainclothes arrest four men trying to extort doctor

NEW DELHI: Gang members who tried to extort money from a doctor in Adarsh Nagar were apprehended by North West Delhi policemen, who posed as civilians and laid a trap to arrest the accused from Bhalswa.

Acting on the doctor's complaint, who said that on December 15, some unknown men on two motorcycles threatened him with dire consequences if he did not pay them Rs 20 lakh.

From December 18, they started making threat calls to the doctor as well.

The doctor then filed a police complaint and cops found out that the calls were being made from Bhalswa.

A police team, supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) AK Lal, under the guidance of DCP (North West) Aslam Khan, was formed to nab the accused.

“The raiding party members were asked to put on civil uniform and women staff from various police stations were taken and deployed in various streets secretively.

“The entire raiding party took their position in such a way that they looked like as resident members of colony,” Khan told reporters on Saturday.

She added that on identifying the four accused, the police team easily apprehended them at the spot.

The accused have been identified as Nafis, Neeraj, Rajesh Pratap and Kuldeep, all residents of Delhi.

“A pistol and one countrymade revolver, three live cartridges, four snatched mobile phones used by accused persons and two motorcycles and one scooty were also recovered from them,” she further said.
