Gone in 60 seconds: Duo stole bikes in less than a minute

NEW DELHI: Two members of a gang of motor vehicle theft who took inspiratio­n from Hollywood movie ‘Gone in 60 Seconds' have been arrested from South East Delhi.

Police claimed the accused did not take more than a minute to break the lock and steal a bike.

The accused were identified as Manmeet, 25 and his friend Sumit, 18. They were arrested on Saturday after a police team received informatio­n about their movement in Kalkaji Mandir area.

DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said the accused love to steal and it gives them the thrill to break the lock of the vehicle and take it away swiftly.

They had planned to steal 50-60 motorcycle­s and then to sell them and buy a TSR so that they can earn a regular income by renting it at day-time.

They had another plan to use the TSR for smuggling liquor and ganja to make good money.

They used to target motorcycle­s/scooters parked in the isolated areas and kept a long watch before stealing the vehicle.

“They both were fascinated by movies on thieves and used to watch movies wherein lead character plays a crooked thief. They used to watch Hindi dubbed version of Hollywood movies also,” said the DCP. He further added that they took inspiratio­n to steal vehicles from famous Hollywood movie “Gone in 60 Seconds” wherein the prime character along with his associates steals cars within a minute. They had planned to steal one bike daily and were almost successful­ly doing that before being nabbed by the police. NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a banquet hall at Outer Delhi's Mianwali Nagar area, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Ramesh, a businessma­n who lived with his family in Model Town area of north west Delhi.

Police claimed that the incident came to light on January 5, after a PCR call was received regarding a suicide in the banquet hall.

A police team reached the spot and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sources claimed that the victim had written a purported suicide note on a wall, writing the name of a person and blaming him for his death.

When a senior police official was asked about details, he said the matter is under investigat­ion.

Police claimed that they have questioned several people in this regard.
