- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: The Haryana Police Special Task Force (STF), constituted specially to curb the rise of organised crimes in the state, bagged its first success with the arrest of four sharp shooters of the Manjeet Mahal gang on Sunday.

Police said the four men have been identified as Sachin, Deepak, Abhishek and Uttam, and four loaded pistols, 20 live cartridges and a white colour Apache motorcycle were recovered from them.

Headquartered in Gurugram, the STF made the arrests from Jhajjar, 37 km away from the Gurugram city centre.

The team acted after receiving a tip that the accused would reach Jhajjar to eliminate members of rival Jyoti Nandu gang.

After the STF spotted the four accused at Surkhpur road near Jhajjar and moved in to nab them, the accused fired shots at the team. It, however, did not last long, and the accused were subdued.

Cases under sections 186 (obstructing public servants for discharging their duty), 353 (assault on public servant to prevent him from discharging his duty) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code have been filed against them at the Jhajjar police station against the accused.

During their interrogation, the accused confessed to a series of crimes commited in Gurugram and south west Delhi. This year, they had even planned a murder in Najafgarh, in the outskirts of Delhi.

Formed on the lines a spe- cial team in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana too now has a group of special policemen.

Special encounter teams will be created under this team, which is expected to assume charge in the second week of January.

With as many as six dreaded gangs committing murders, dacoity, rapes and extortion at will, the Haryana STF will be seen as a vital instrument to fight in Gurugram. Beside the high-profile gangs, there are also various small gangs that have challenged law enforcement officials in the city.
