On Makar Sankranti, Delhi BJP woos Poorvanchali voters
To win the confidence of Poorvanchali voters in the national Capital, the Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday, in a show of strength, organised a major programme to celebrate Makar Sankranti at Talkatora Stadium here, which saw thousands of Poorvanchali people in attendance.
Addressing the crowd, prominent Poorvanchali leader and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said, “It is a matter of pride for the people of Poorvanchal that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made Varanasi his constituency. The MP from Poorvanchal's Banaras became the Prime Minister and now India has become the fastest developing country in the world.”
“Today, we should resolve to follow this tradition, as well as in the future,” said Tiwari, while addressing the gathering.
The MP North East Delhi said that the “sun of development, which has risen in the east, will brighten the entire country in 2019.”
“When in South, East and West, the sun of nationalism has risen, then why should Delhi be far from it? We should now resolve that the sun of development should rise in Delhi too,” Tiwari stated.
Lavishing praise on the Poorvanchali community, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, another prominent Poorvanchali leader, said, “There is no corner in the world today where people from Poorvanchal do not live. Wherever they went for their livelihood, they contributed for development of that land with their hard labour. Whenever any movement was started for the nation, the contribution of the people of poorvanchal has been excellent.”
