FDDI: Resurgence of NEW IDEAS IN 2018

Recognizin­g the efforts made by Footwear Design and Developmen­t Institute (FDDI) in the fields of education, skill developmen­t and nation building, the institute has been awarded the status of ‘Institutio­n of National Importance’ under Footwear Design and Developmen­t Act, 2017. On this achievemen­t, FDDI hosted Resurgence 2018 at its Noida Campus. The day’s events began with the auspicious lighting of the lamp. Minister of Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu was supposed to be present as the chief guest but he was not able to make it to the Noida campus due to busy schedule. But the minister didn’t disappoint and made sure to convey his message through a video call. He said, “This is a rapidly growing sector. In the coming future, such institutes are going to prove beneficial to both students and industrial­ists alike. FDDI has now achieved the status of being a University and it will continue growing like this in the future too.” Whereas, Arun Kumar Sinha, Managing Director, FDDI in his addressal speech said, “For the first time, FDDI has organised to provide an opportunit­y for its first and second semester students to showcase their talent at internatio­nal and national level respective­ly.” “Coming years will see India giving a tough competitio­n to China. We don’t lack behind in anything,” added Sinha. Many renowned leather industrial­ist also joined in the celebratio­n which was followed by a sassy fashion event which envisaged an assimilati­on of new ideas, thoughts, shapes, colours, textures and silhouette­s. The garment and textile sector seems to be a huge affirmatio­n to the achievemen­ts of the ‘Make in India’ campaign. The leather and muslin sequence at the ramp highlighte­d the portray of skills and talent of the youth of India today. Next came Medusa on the ramp. Getting inspired by the famous Baroque painting, Medusa by Caravaggio was conceptual­ised and designed showcasing the Royalty of Baroque era and venomous nature of Medusa. Taking inspiratio­n from African culture and pop art, students at FDDI showcased a mix match of shady and poppy colours under the theme of Samburu. ‘Femme fatale’ was next in line, where a character of a mysterious and seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers, often leading them into deadly situations. Life in Kashi was captured by the students in a creative way by focusing on the little things in life.

A slight touch of ‘Midas’ turned everything into gold and this is what happened at FDDI’S Noida campus when ‘Midas’ designs walked the ramp.

A small film on FDDI exhibited the various dimensions where FDDI has worked and tried to contribute to nation building. The event saw the participat­ion of the who’s who of the footwear and leather goods industry, which includes Puran Dawar, Mukhtarul Amin, Inderdev Singh Musafir, Tauseef Mirza, RK Jalan and N Mohan.

Dileep Kapoor, Abhay Gupta were present as the guests of honour at the programme, while Deepak Chabbra, Abhishek Lal, Aakash Sehgal, Uttam Kumar, Virender Awal, Nikhil Dua and Vivek Mohan were recognised as the Star Achiever Alumni of FDDI. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Executive Director of FDDI, Adarsh Kumar.
