Bizman shot at, robbed of nine lakh in Ghaziabad

Police said that when the businessma­n tried to resist the robbery attempt by six men, they opened fire on him and fled away, taking the bag filled with money

GHAZIABAD: A 40-yearold businessma­n was critically injured after being shot by unidentifi­ed assailants, who fled after robbing him of Rs nine lakh, in Vasundhara area of Ghaziabad early Monday morning.

Police said that Mukesh Sharma, the victim, was on his way to Sahibabad wholesale market in his car and was accompanie­d by his father.

Around 5 am, six men took over his car in Vasundhara on gunpoint and told him to handover the bag containing cash.

When the businessma­n tried to resist the robbery attempt, they opened fire on him and fled away, taking the bag containing Rs nine lakh, added police.

“After the informatio­n was communicat­ed, a police team rushed to the spot and took the victim to nearby Narendra Mohan Hospital, from where he was referred to Yashoda Hospital, as his condition was critical,” said Akash Tomar, Superinten­dent of Police, Ghaziabad.

Police suspect that an acquaintan­ce of Sharma is involved in the incident.

“Prime facie investigat­ion shows involvemen­t of a known person.

“The incident was preplanned and the miscreants knew that Shamra was carrying cash in his car. Investigat­ions are underway and we will conduct search at various suspected locations to nab the culprit,” added Tomar.

In a similar incident reported on January 24, a 35-year-old trader was allegedly shot at by two bike-borne assailants on Link Road in Indirapura­m.

The trader was travelling on a scooterett­e to Sahibabad wholesale market, and luckily escaped with a bullet injury above his left knee.
