Noida fake encounter: District Bar Association observes day-long strike

NOIDA: The alleged fake encounter in Noida’s Sector-122 has stirred agitations against Uttar Pradesh police and the state government.

The incident not only rocked the Rajya Sabha on Monday, leading to a washout of the morning session, but also saw a strike call at Surajpur Court in Greater Noida by the District Bar Association.

Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh Raj Babbar on Monday visited Fortis Hospital to enquire the condition of one of the victims Jitendra Kumar Yadav and met some protestors near the hospital.

“There has been a plague of fake encounters in Uttar Pradesh, and in some cases, the victims of these encounters don’t even have a criminal record,” said Babbar, while addressing the public.

Babbar further blamed the Yogi government and the police authorities for killing innocent citizens for no reasons.

“Jintendra had absolutely no criminal record and any sort of encounter cannot be put into motion without the authorisation of the higher authorities. People who are responsible for Jintedra’s murder should be taken to court,” Babbar further said.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Bar Association also called for a complete closure of work for one day on Monday to protest against fake encounters by the UP police.

“The Uttar Pradesh police has started killing innocent people in the name of encounters. The police have chosen certain spots in the district to conduct encounters.

“We demand a CBI inquiry into the firing at Jitendra Yadav. Failing which, a more intensified protest will be staged by us,” said Lalit Sharma, secretary, District Bar Association, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

In Ghaziabad, the Senior Superintendent of police, HN Singh, has declared that from now no service revolver or pistol will be provided to any trainee sub-inspector in the district.

The SSP also called off the service revolvers from the entire trainee sub-inspectors who have been issued the weapons in the past.

As per reports, there are over hundred trainee subinspectors deployed in the Ghaziabad district.

Gym trainer Jitendra Kumar Yadav was shot by trainee Sub-inspector Vijay Darshan and three other policemen after they had an argument with Yadav over taking him to police station for questioning.
