Over 500 kg cannabis seized, two arrested
NEW DELHI: A team of Delhi Police Special Cell has busted a narcotics drug cartel, by apprehending two drug traffickers and seized 540.75 kg of marijuana from inside two trucks containing specially-designed cavities, one which resembled a postal van and another a 10-wheel close body truck.
Police said on Wednesday that the accused, identified as Akbar Khan (37) from Haryana and Mantu Singh (32) from Bihar, were also involved in supplying illicit liquor from Delhi-ncr to Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and procuring the Cannabis from Naxalite affected bordering areas of Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Andhra Pradesh for sale in Delhi-ncr and other states.
On February 1, the Special Cell was that a conduit of the cartel was on its way from Odisha to Delhi, carrying a large cache of cannabis in a truck with the registration CG04 JB 1483 and entering Delhi via Badarpur Border.
On the basis of the tip-off, a trap was laid and the truck, bearing the painted letter ‘Dak Parcel’ in Hindi on its front and back, was stopped at Mathura Road, opposite Mohan Estate Industrial Area and both accused were identified and arrested from the truck.
“During interrogation, Khan revealed that he has been in the business for a long time alongwith his handlers. This time, he and Mantu Singh and Sunny, both residents of Bihar, had procured cannabis from one Dada near Brahmpura (Odisha) to be delivered to his handlers in Delhi,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah.
