GHAZIABAD: Two youth, reportedly in their midtwenties and working with a private company, died after the motorcycle they were traveling on collided into a stationary truck from behind on late Tuesday night.

Police said that none of the passengers were wearing helmets, which instantly killed them after the collision.

Sources in Ghaziabad Police said the incident took place in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad near Vasundhara red light.

The deceased were identified as Kapil (24) and Manoj (26), both natives of Maharajpur district, cops added.

Around 11 pm on Tuesday, the two victims were travelling back to their apartment from work on the motorcycle.

The over-speeding bike collided into the stationary truck, parked on the left side of the road to carry away the axed trees located by the side of the flyover near the red light, which were being axed for construction activities.

“Passersby communicated the incident to us, upon which a police team reached the spot and took victims to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival,” said Sushil Kumar Dubey, station house officer, Indirapuram police station, on Wednesday

“The truck has been seized and the driver has been arrested after registering a case against him,” he added.

Police further said that had the victims been wearing helmet, they would have survived the collision.

“Looking at the intensity of collision, we can make out that the bike was being driven at a very high speed at the time of the collision. Both of the victims suffered severe head injuries.

“The injuries could have been averted if the two youth were wearing a helmet,” Dubey further said. GURUGRAM: A reply to a recent RTI query filed by activist Aseem Takyar has revealed that the state-owned Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) is reeling under a massive debt, to the tune of Rs 14,000 crores.

The reply revealed that the public agency has to pay almost 19 banks an exorbitant amount of Rs 13,941 crores.

A major reason for the massive debt is increased land acquisition and enhanced compensation to allotees.

In order to pay this huge amount, HSIIDC, on a monthly basis, has to pay an interest of Rs 92 crore and, for the current financial year, has to pay interest amount of Rs 713 crore.

To pare off its debt, HSIIDC is hoping that 1,327 plots in the 20 acre of Global City built in Garhi Harsaru in Gurugram are sold at a good value, which is expected to fetch the debtridden agency Rs 12,000 crore.

HSIIDC officials have also expressed optimism of a sale of 12-acre plot in the industrial area of Udyog Vihar, which would result in the public agency gaining Rs 1,000 crore.
