Trial on IP Extension–maujpur section of Metro’s Pink Line begins
DMRC to implement advanced communication-based train control to reduce frequency of trains
NEW DELHI:
Delhi Metro on Wednesday began test runs on the Maujpur-ip Extension stretch of the upcoming 59-km long Pink Line (Shiv ViharMajlis Park), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement.
The 10.47-km stretch has nine elevated stations, namely IP Extension, Anand Vihar, Karkardooma, Karkardooma Court, Krishna Nagar, East Azad Nagar, Welcome, Jaffrabad and Maujpur Station.
Moreover, the Majlis Park– Shiv Vihar corridor, including this stretch, will open in parts by June 2018, the DMRC statement said.
During the test runs, the Corporation will check for physical infringement with any civil structure and will also implement its advanced communication-based train control, so as to reduce the frequency between trains and also scope of human error.
The stretch has three interchanging stations, namely Anand Vihar, Karkardooma and Welcome. The first two will form a junction with the Blue Line (Vaishali/noida City Centre–dwarka Sector 21) and the third with the Red Line (Rithala–dilshad Garden), known as Line-1, for it was the first of the network.
However, while the Metro corridors have been designed as radials spread across Delhincr, the Pink Line has been conceptualised as a large ring which will connect all these corridors and provide the adjacent connectivity to all most every integrated areas that has been left under other lines.
The Majlis Park–durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section is one part of the ring, which will begin from north Delhi and on its way down to South Delhi, connects areas in north west and West Delhi.
“The trial runs between Shakurpur and Mayapuri stations are in progress and ready to open. It will be extended to Majlis Park from Shakurpur station to Durgabhai Deshmukh South Campus station from Mayapuri soon,” said a DMRC official.
The number of interchange stations in the Metro network will go up to 27, once the Phase-iii project is completed and both the Pink Line and Magenta Line (Janakpuri West–botanical Garden) become operational, the official added.
Moreover, starting from Majlis Park, there will be an interchange at Azadpur, which will connect with the Yellow Line (Samaypur BADLI–HUDA City Centre).
The next interchange station at Netaji Subhash Place will connect the Red Line (Rithala–dilshad Garden) and the Rajouri Garden stop will link the Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21–Noida City Centre/ Vaishali).
The last interchange will be between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Dhaula Kuan station of the Airport Express Line. The two stations are located 1 km away, which will be connected with a walkway that will have walkators.
