Over choking scene

-

LOS ANGELES: Actor Diane Kruger has defended Quentin Tarantino, who is under fire following a New York Times article that said the director choked and spit on Uma Thurman for one of the scenes in Kill Bill.

Kruger was also a part of a ‘choking’ scene in Tarantino’s movie Inglourious Basterds but the actor said she was treated with a lot of respect. In the NYT piece, Thurman also alleged that Tarantino forced her to drive an unsafe car as part of a stunt on the set of Kill Bill, which crashed and injured her.

Tarantino, on his part, has expressed regret for Thurman’s accident, calling it the “biggest mistake” of his life. Kruger took to Instagram to defend the director.

“In light of the recent allegations made by Uma Thurman against Harvey Weinstein and her terrifying work experience on ‘Kill Bill’, my name has been mentioned in numerous articles in regards to the choking scene in ‘Inglourious Basterds’.

“For the record, however, I would like to say that my work experience with Quentin Tarantino was pure joy. He treated me with utter respect and never abused his power or forced me to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with,” she wrote. The actor called the movement against sexual harassment post the Harvey Weinstein revelations an “important moment”.

“My heart goes out to Uma and anyone who has ever been the victim of sexual assault and abuse. I stand with you,” she said. In an old interview, which has resurfaced now, Tarantino is heard defending director Roman Polanski over charges of raping a 13-year-old girl. LOS ANGELES: Oprah Winfrey has shot down the prospects of her running for the post of President of the United States. During a conversation with Broadway star Lin-manuel Miranda on her podcast Supersoul Sunday, Winfrey said she is not running for the office, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Miranda had said that he was not going to enter politics, to which Winfrey responded, “I’m not either!”

Winfrey’s rousing speech at the Golden Globe awards had set social media abuzz with speculation that she might enter politics with many celebrities already looking at her as a possible presidential candidate in 2020.

Winfrey had earlier also shot down the possibility of her presidential bid in an interview with Instyle magazine. “I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it,” Winfrey had said.
