SDMC proposes hike in monthly pension, rebate on property tax
NEW DELHI: Leader of the House in South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Shikha Rai on Monday proposed a monthly pension hike from Rs 1,000 to 2,000 for people with serious illnesses and/or mental diseases, widows, deserted women, kinnars and orphaned children.
The Budget proposal introduced by Rai also laid emphasis on revamping the education sector by upgrading normal classes in 204 SDMC schools into a smart ones by March 2018.
While the civic body has not introduced any new taxes, a one per cent education cess on property tax has been proposed in the Budget, which will be used for better educational infrastructure in SDMC schools.
Meanwhile, widows of martyrs of Armed and Paramilitary forces, and medal winners in Olympics, Asian, and Commonwealth games will get full rebate on property tax for one of their residential properties on lumpsum payment of tax up to June 30.
Ex-servicemen will get 30 per cent rebate in the tax amount for one of their residential properties.
Farmers, who are the original owners of their land in the village, will get full property tax exemption on one of their residential self-occupied properties.
As per recommendations of the Fourth Finance Commission and Municipal Reforms fund, dues of Rs 1,400 crore, on account of the funds from Delhi government, is yet to be released.
