Reversing car, man crushes 18-month-old boy to death

GURUGRAM: In a tragic incident, Hans Raj who was only a year-and-a half died after coming under the wheels of a vehicle. The mishap occurred in the Rajendar Park area on Saturday. Hans Raj was playing outside his house when he got severely injured by the vehicle of the neighbour Bijender who was reversing his car. He was quickly rushed to the hospital after the accident, however, the doctors could not save his life. Postmortem was completed and body has been handed over to the parents. As of now, the parents do not want any action to be taken against the accused.

The occurrence­s of children losing their lives through vehicular accidents are not a new phenomenon. On November 19 last year, a five-year-old girl died after being hit by Mercedes at the old Delhi road. In December last year a threeyear-old girl lost her life after being hit by a car when she was crossing the road at Manesar.

In 2017, 481 people lost their lives due to accident in the city. Significan­tly more than 100 of such death were caused due to rash and negligent driving. Faulty road designs, poor signage systems and poor management of traffic in major roads of Gurugram are making it accident prone claim experts. Shortage of facilities like foot over bridges on busy city roads also adds to the dangers for pedestrian­s.

In the past, the District Authoritie­s were forced to build Foot over Bridges (FOB'S) by the local residents owing to death of pedestrian­s by movement of high speed vehicles at Gurugram Faridabad area. Yet, residents complain that poor maintenanc­e and incomplete work has resulted in people still not using the FOB. GREATER NOIDA: Two middle aged labourers were crushed to death in Bambawad village of Greater Noida on Monday morning after a speeding dumper, which was deployed at the constructi­on site of Eastern Peripheral Expressway, rammed into their motorcycle.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Soyan, a resident of Chithera village and Sandeep as resident of Dadupur village of Greater Noida.

“These two victims were appointed as labourers on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. While going to pursue their duty on Monday morning, the speeding dumper rammed into their motorcycle and both the persons died on the spot,” said Ajay Kumar Sharma, station house officer, Bisrakh police station.

Police have registered a case against the unidentifi­ed driver who managed to flee from the spot.

As the informatio­n spread, the locals staged an agitation at the spot and blocked the road demanding compensati­on against the death of these workers. They also vandalized the vehicles and the dumper which was involved in the incident. The protestors also opposed to take away the bodies from spot till their demands are met.

Later when senior police officials reached the spot, the agitated locals were pacified after giving an assurance to undertake strict actions against those responsibl­e for the death of both the workers. GURUGRAM: The Gurugram police have arrested four people for molesting a South Korean tourist and also manhandlin­g her male friend. Those arrested have been identified as Sandeep, Vinod, Rakesh and Jeetender.

The incident was reported on February 10 when the tourist along with her friend was returning to Delhi from Jaipur. Travelling through the DelhiJaipu­r highway they decided to stop at Manesar and click the photograph­s of the Aravallis hilltops in the area.

Taking advantage of them being alone in the area, the four youth first began misbehavin­g with the couple and then became more aggressive as the time passed. Not being deterred from the entire incident, a complaint was filed at the woman police station leading to the arrests.

According to the police official, molestatio­n of women comes second in list of crimes against women in the district after domestic violence. In 2014 and 2015, there were 124 and 178 cases of molestatio­n but in 2016 there was a whopping increase with over 320 cases of molestatio­n registered. While, more than 200 cases of molestatio­n have been registered in 2017 so far.
