NEW DELHI: The Special Staff of Outer Delhi Police on Saturday said they have arrested three men involved in producing counterfeit marksheets of closed universities in exchange for large sums of money from aspirants in need.

A complaint was received at the Special Staff office about one Shiv Shankar, who was running a racket of giving away fake marksheets and allegedly cheated the complainant of Rs 2.5 lakh and demanded Rs 50,000 more to give the complainant the final degree.

Subsequently, a case was registered under section 420, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code at Mianwali Nagar police station and a raid was conducted.

Eventually, Shiv Shankar was apprehended from his office, and several fake marksheets, migration and provisional certificates, pen drives and hardware equipment were recovered from his office.

When the accused was interrogated, he disclosed to cops that he had been running the racket, in connivance with other men identified as Manish Bansal and Gautam Gupta.

Based on Shiv Shankar’s information, the other accused were also arrested.

During interrogation, the other two accused disclosed that they used to obtain the database of mobile numbers from Justdial and used to conduct marketing of their racket by distributing pamphlets door to door. “After convincing their clients, they would give the marksheets in exchange for money,” said a police official.
