Cops teach 4,000 students about cyber security

NEW DELHI: A cyber awareness campaign, aimed at educating 4,000 students from 26 schools and colleges, was organised by personnel of Shahdara District Police here on Monday.

The children were briefed about various cyber laws beneficiar­y to them.

According to police, the mass cyber awareness campaign was organised by Shahdara District Police at Yamuna Sports Complex in Vivek Vihar area as part of the ongoing Delhi Police week.

Special Commission­er of Police (Law and Order) SBK Singh presided over the programme as Chief Guest, with other senior officers of the Eastern Range also in attendance.

Singh addressed the students and briefed them about the cyber threats faced by India.

The students were advised that as they look right and left before crossing roads to ensure their safety, they should also be mindful while using the internet.

“Due precaution­s should be taken at the time of using the internet. Some useful features of Whatsapp, Facebook and other apps were also explained to the students, so that they may secure their personal data and informatio­n,” Singh told Millennium Post.

The senior police official also told students to use passwords in regional language, in order to make it difficult to be hacked. He also entrusted students with the task of ‘Each One Teach One,’ in order to spread awareness cyber safety.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad stated that cyberlaw expert Pavan Duggal also briefed the students regarding various cyber laws useful to them.

Duggal shared his experience­s about some cases of cyber offenses and advised students to use the internet cautiously.

“Use sensible and different passwords for every site. Don’t post any personal informatio­n online – like your address, email address or mobile number and Photos. Do not download content or data whose genuinity you are not absolutely sure about. Do not trust as true, whatever you read on the Internet,” Duggal told the students

“Practicing basic cyber security hygiene habits and installing sufficient anti-virus softwares were some important point shared by the cyber expert,” said Prasad.

The students were also shown a presentati­on about how to better assess the threats of cybercrime by the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police. GHAZIABAD: The Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) on Monday raided a diamond showroom at Shipra Mall in Ghaziabad, in connection with the multi-crore Punjab National Bank scam involving around Rs 11, 400 crores, said officials of the agency.

Ghaziabad Police said that the raid was carried out at Diamond World showroom in Shipra Mall and the owner of the showroom Sunil Agarwal has been taken to custody for questionin­g.

ED officials also questioned the other staff working at showroom. Sources say that the showroom raided has their links with diamond merchant Nirav Modi, the accused behind the PNB scam.

However, officials refused to share any details with the media, but said that their investigat­ions are underway and once they are done, details will be shared.

The agency also raided 40 more locations in several cities across the country on Monday, including 10 locations in Mumbai, six each in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, four in Chennai, three in Surat, two each in Bihar, Lucknow, Jalandhar and Hyderabad and one in Delhi.

On Thursday, the investigat­ive agency registered an FIR under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and conducted raids after allegation­s of fraud surfaced against billionair­e Nirav Modi and his Mumbai-based firms – Diamonds R Us, Solar Exports and Stellar Diamonds.

An ED spokespers­on said that till Saturday, diamonds, Gold and Jewellerie­s worth Rs 5,674 have been seized during the raids conducted at over 100 locations.

The action is based on a CBI case registered against Nirav Modi on Wednesday in connection with a fraud involving Rs 6,498 crore.
