NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said it was being “hounded” as the police arrested two of its MLAS over the alleged assault of Delhi’s top bureaucrat at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s home.

Denying any wrongdoing, AAP’S Amanatullah Khan, who had been in trouble with the law in the past, surrendered at the police station on Wednesday morning and was formally arrested. Lawmaker Prakash Jarwal was arrested late on Tuesday night. A court has rejected the police appeal to get their custody for questioning.

A Delhi court sent the two AAP MLAS to judicial custody till Thursday.

Delhi Police also questioned chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s adviser VK Jain in connection with an alleged assault on Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash by two AAP MLAS. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Harendra Kumar Singh said that Jain was being questioned at the Civil Lines Police Station.

AAP’S Sanjay Singh said the party was being “hounded”. “Everyone questions only the AAP. Chief Secretary says he was beaten. There is no proof. Is his the ultimate word? What about the word of a minister?” he said at a press conference on Wednesday after Khan’s surrender.

The report of the medical examination of the Chief Secretary showed he sustained injuries on his forehead and cuts on his face, sources said. There was also swelling behind the ears.

The Delhi High Court has refused to intervene following a petition on the issue. The court said “They (police) will take action by law. We will wait for the outcome”.

Top Delhi government bureaucrats from IAS and DANICS cadres came to work on Wednesday with black ribbons on their arms to protest against the alleged attack by AAP MLAS on the Delhi government chief secretary.

The Home Ministry on Wednesday received a report from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on the alleged assault on the city’s chief secretary, and it is under examination, an official said.
