Protestors vent anger against Noida police inaction over bizman’s murder
NOIDA: Following the death of a 20-year-old businessman in Noida on Sunday night, locals residents and family members of the deceased staged a protest and disrupted traffic movenment on Noidagreater Noida road on Monday morning and demanding the arrest of criminals.
The victim Diwakar Kansal was shot dead by three unidentified bike-borne assailants, after he resisted a robbery bid in Noida’s Bhangel area.
On Monday, protestors said that the incident took place just hundred metres away from the nearest police post, and alleged that snatchings and robberies have become common in the area due to lack of patrolling.
“The police post was just 100 metres away and still criminals managed to fire at him and flee. There are no CCTV cameras in the area; the police do not do patrolling at night. We want police to arrest the criminals and provide us justice,” said a resident of Banghel.
Following the allegations by the locals, Noida Police on Monday suspended the incharge of the Bhangel police post.
“The incharge of Bang- hel police post, sub-inspector Arun Kumar has been suspended for negligence of duty. We have asked the circle officers to keep a check on all their areas in the city to curb crime,” said a senior police officer.
According to police, the incident took place around 10 pm, when Kansal, a Noidabased businessman, was heading home along with his father, after closing their confectionary shop.
“The incident occurred near 82 intersection road, leading to the Expressway, where three unidentified men on a bike stopped them. They tried to loot Kansal’s bag of cash and opened fire at the father and son duo when they tried to resist the robbery attempt,” said Shwetabh Pandey, Circle Officer-3, Noida.
Diwakar received three bullet injuries and died on the way to the hospital, while the criminals fled with the bag containing Rs 5 lakh.
“An angry mob pelted stones at the PCR and tried to set it on fire when it reached the spot. We have formed teams to nab the criminals and a case has been registered a case against three unidentified men under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code” added Pandey.
