Sharpshoot­er nabbed in Amroha after shootout with cops

NEW DELHI: In a joint operation with Uttar Pradesh Police, The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old sharpshoot­er, after a gun battle in which the SHO Amroha Dehat police station was injured.

Police added that accused Anwar alias Hatela received three bullet injuries in his legs.

Anwar was having a reward of Rs one lakh from Delhi and Rs 25,000 from UP Police, and wanted in 10 heinous criminal cases in Delhi and UP.

A team of 40 police personnel from Delhi and UP police made the arrest.

“We received a tip-off about his hideout in Amroha, and Inspector Shiv Kumar, along with the police team, had already stationed himself in Amroha to track Anwar.

“On the intervenin­g night of March 13 and 14, Kumar received informatio­n that Anwar along with his wife and an associate would go to Delhi to commit some crime in a white Santro Car,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.

He added that they are investigat­ing whether Anwar was trying to flee the country with his wife during the encounter.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said that Kumar was helped in the operation by a team coordinate­d with SHO of Amroha’s Kotwali police station Inspector Rajender Nagar.

In TP Nagar, Amroha, Anwar was spotted in a car and was signaled to stop. However, he tried to flee and started firing on the police party.

“Wireless message was flashed for more reinforcem­ent to encircle the car. Inspector Dharmender, SHO Amroha Dehat police station, and his team also arrived to corner Anwar and his associates,” said the DCP.

Police claimed that Anwar along with his associate came out from the car and started indiscrimi­nate firing on the police team.

Dharmender received a bullet wound in his hand, while Kumar and Nagar were also hit by bullets, but saved by their bullet-proof jackets.

Kumar and other police personnel also fired in selfdefens­e and soon overpowere­d Anwar.

During the search of spot, 11 empties of 7.65mm fired by Anwar and his associate were found.

As many as 14 empties of 9mm fired by police were also recovered from the spot.

The Delhi Police team was formed under the supervisio­n of ACP (Special Cell) Attar Singh and led by Kumar.

Anwar, who was injured in both the legs, and Dharmender, who had also received bullet injuries, were rushed to the government hospital in Amroha.

Police further claimed that Anwar, along with his associates, had in October 22 last year, shot dead Wajid and Faiz when they were going on a scooter in north east Delhi.

The accused had killed Wajid by firing more than 20 rounds into him. NOIDA: Accused in over a dozen cases of robbery and loot, nine robbers – including a married couple – were arrested by Gautam Buddh Nagar police from Sector-20 area of Noida.

Police on Wednesday said that the arrested accused have been identified as Deepak, Neha, Vinay Pathak, Prashant Chaudhary, Saif Ali, Om, Vijay Kumar, Arjun and Kundan.

Police said that all these accused are residents of Harola area of Noida, except Deepak and Neha, who were married to each other and lived in New Ashok Nagar area.

Arun Kumar Singh, Superinten­dent of Police, Noida, told reporters that all the arrests were made from sector 95A area of Noida, while they were distributi­ng the swag amongst themselves. “Upon interrogat­ing the arrested accused, they told police that they use to keep Neha in their compnay in every robbery incident, so that no one would be suspicious of their presence,” said Singh.

Singh further said that the accused were involved in over a dozen robbery incidents in Sector-18 market, Sector-27 Indira Market, Brahmaputr­a Market, Ganga Complex and other posh markets of the city.

Police have seized 26 mobile phones, a LED TV, cash and other valuables from the possession of criminals.
