Speeding school bus mows down man on cycle

NOIDA: A 42-year-old man riding a bicycle was crushed to death by a speeding school bus, ferrying nearly a dozen students and teachers of Delhi Public School, in Noida’s Sector-30 area on Wednesday morning.

Police have arrested the accused bus driver, while he was trying to flee the scene of the crime.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Lakshman Khadakwar, a native of Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, who worked as a supervisor in an export company.

The incident occurred when the victim was riding his bicycle to his factory, when the school bus carrying students and teachers hit the cyclist near Sector-32 area.

Due to the fatal accident, a huge traffic snarl was witnessed on the road.

However, police rushed to the spot immediatel­y and eased traffic movement.

All the occupants of the school bus were safe.

“As soon as the informatio­n was conveyed, the accused driver, identified as Arvind, was arrested by the police. We have also seized the school bus and necessary proceeding­s will be taken against the accused driver,” Akhilesh Tripathi, station house officer, sector 24 police station, Noida, told reporters.

As the news spread, his neighbors and family members gathered at sector 24 police station demanding strict punishment to the driver.

“Meanwhile the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem and a case of rash driving under relevant sections has been registered against the accused driver” added the senior police officer.
