Land records of Delhi’s 192 villages go online

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has digitised the land records of 192 villages out of 224 villages in the national Capital.

According to the revenue department, the process for the computerisation of land records in the remaining villages was underway, which will be completed soon.

The move is aimed at ensuring that citizens do not have to visit the revenue offices to get land records, which also seeks to bring transparency in the system.

In a written reply to a question asked by AAP MLA Mohammad Ishraque in the Delhi Assembly, Revenue Minister Kailash Gahlot said that several reasons, including urbanisation of some villages, are coming in the way of computerising land records of 32 villages, which will be resolved soon.

However, the minister said that no timeline has been fixed for digitisation of the land record of other villages.

Under the computerised system, the digitally signed records of rights is available 24x7 in public domain and can be downloaded by citizens anywhere.

Through this online database, people can get a view into the property land record and its legal status.

People can then crosscheck the land status through the maps put up showing the ground situation and any dis- crepancy can be pointed out immediately.

Digitisation of land records is among the various measures taken by the Aam Aadmi Party-led government to make various services online.

The Delhi Cabinet, earlier this month, had passed the bill to ensure doorstep delivery of monthly ration to beneficiaries on a timely basis.

A sanction by the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal is required for its implementation.

Calling the scheme revolutionary, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the decision was taken keeping in mind instances where ration is stolen from fair price shops, or when shops are shut, causing inconvenience to the beneficiary.

Early this year, the Delhi government’s ambitious programme for doorstep delivery of public services was cleared by the LG, who had earlier redflagged a few provisions in the scheme.
