NEW DELHI: Station House Officer of Delhi Cantt was sent to district lines after the complaint of alleged molestation was filed by a female journalist during a protest on Friday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma stated that based on the findings of vigilance enquiry, a case under section 354 A IPC has been registered at Sarojini Nagar police station on the complaint of molestation alleged by the lady journalist pertaining to the incident of crowd dispersal on March 23.

DCP Verma claimed that in the interest of fair and impartial probe, SHO Delhi Cantt has been transferred to District Lines. The case has also been transferred to crime branch for further investigation.

Meanwhile, a group of journalists on Monday took out a protest march from Press Club of India to the Parliament Complex, demanding action against Delhi Police officials accused of attacking journalists during a protest march organized by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and teachers last week. They submitted a memorandum of their demands to the police.

After the complaint filed by a photojournalist who had alleged snatching of her camera during JNU protest march on Friday, Delhi Police claimed to have registered a case and one woman constable and one head constable (male) have been also placed under suspension. The camera has since been traced and the police are contacting the photojournalist to facilitate its restoration.

On the basis of the preliminary finding of vigilance inquiry for the unprofessional conduct of mishandling the journalist's camera during crowd control, two police personnel have been placed under suspension.

On Friday evening, the march by students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against alleged sexual harassment in the campus turned violent, when protesters clashed with police, who used water cannon guns and batons to disperse the marching protestors. Police claimed that during the protest by JNU students, a section of the students became aggressive and tried to push down police barricades. Police had to resort to using water cannon and few protesters had to be removed from the spot.
